Beale Stitt

The dog world has been saddened to hear of the passing of Beale Stitt on January 19th at the age of 82.

Beale had been involved with dogs for about 50 years, starting in the 50's when he acquired his first Labrador, a black dog called Nylander Nipper. Through this first dog he initially was involved in the show scene and became a breed judge at a time when status to judge was acquired one breed at a time and not the Gundog Group as a whole. As the years progressed he became involved with Obedience, Gundog Working Tests, Tracking, Retrieving and Field Trials and competed in many of these disciplines as well as acquiring judges status.

Following the death of his first wife Nancy, in 1977, he married Barbara in June 1981, who had Golden Retrievers, and came to love that breed too though when Barbara turned to Labradors, his love was always black ones and Gemma was the only yellow to steal his heart.

Beale was a member of the Labrador Club, the Golden Retriever Club and the Gun Dog Society and to the end served on the RAFT committee of NSW as Chairman, the ANKC RAFT committee, and the Sporting Dog committee to name just a few.

Beale's funeral was held at Forest Lawn on 22 January and was hugely supported by the dog community in all its facets. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

He is survived by his children,David,Barbara and Judy and grandchildren and great grand children and also by his wife Barbara and step daughter Zeena. The club extends sympathy to the family.
