WGC Training Day at Cooranbong NSW 04.03.12

Postby Jess van Groningen » Thu 08 Mar 2012 7:30 pm

The Working Gundog Club Inc. conducted an information and introductory training day at Cooranbong NSW on Sunday 4th March, 2012. Over 40 people with their dogs attended and were looked after by 12 enthusiastic club members. After all the rain that preceded the day the sun made a glorious appearance and both humans and dogs appreciated the opportunity to be out and about and receiving the good news about the world of retrieving. Many words of appreciation were spoken and written and we are publishing some below along with some photos of the day’s activities.

Thanks so much for Sunday's training session. We had a ball with our two newbies (the two wirehaired vizsla pups). We (and they) are absolute beginners and it was invaluable to learn how to start these dogs off and the direction we need to be heading with our training. Our dogs had an absolute ball and slept soundly all the way home to Blackheath.
Anne Salisbury was the one who told us we should come along as the WGC people were 'such wonderful people' and she was right. We really appreciate you giving of your time to help newbies like us get started in this fantastic sport and look forward to seeing you again in the future!

Louise and Millie, Therese and Harry.

We should be thanking you, Mary and Joe and all the other helpers. It was a great day.
The highlight of my day was seeing all the different dogs running and swimming together during the lunch break. There was no aggro at all. Have to love our gundogs!
Thanks again and please ask for help if you need me to do anything next time.

Sue

I just wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful day. These training days are so valuable. Mary your hospitality was wonderful, organising everything and catering for everyones lunch and morning teas. It was lovely.
Joe, your demonstration with chip was absolutely fantastic. It really showed the time you spend with Chip and what a wonderful dedicated team you both are. It was awesome.
It was really great catching up with everyone and seeing how fare they are come with their dogs. It was the first time my 10 month pup, Pru, went for the novice retrieve and got them. She returned but overshot me each time, I had a long ski rope on her as her obedience training at this point in time is not the best, but it was great to test how far we have come in a short time. We had a great day and fun with our dogs and I believe everyone there had a great experience as well.

Lovely seeing you, thanks again

Alison and Jacques Menil

I really want to thank the team of people who put together last Sunday’s Training Day.I know a lot of work goes into preparation and into making the day run smoothly and I hope you realise that that the contribution made by you all is greatly appreciated.
A very informative, interesting talk by Joe and Jess meant the time passed very quickly ,and the training tips and the willingness to share the things learnt over many years by Joe as well as Jess’s enthusiasm made the day a real pleasure to attend as well as being an eye opener to just how much goes into training dogs for retrieving .

Again thank you ,
Sue Adams
(P.S. I think I have told everyone I have seen in the last 24 hours about (?) Chip and the blind retrieve, not just about his success but also the enthusiasm he displayed.)

Just wanted to drop a line (or is that email these days) to say what a fantastic training day it was today.A wonderful team of helpers/staff.A huge number of interested people and handlers. From the brand new ones to those with some experience, and those returning after a break.I had some good feedback from my Open RATG sessions. I've also had some good feedback from other people I know in other training sessions.Thank you for arranging one of the few sunny days in the past six weeks - well organised! A great property to train on as well. Thanks to everyone who participated and helped to ensure the future of our sport and our Working Gundogs.

Regards
Jeff and Carol Griffiths

Thank you Jess for doing this report and to your sister Kate for helping out with the photos. It was so gratifying to feel part of a team that worked so well together to turn on a wonderful day.

What a fantastic day you must have had. The site looks wonderful and to see so many different breeds of gundog in the one spot, and all having a go, must have been very gratifying for the organisers.
congratulations.
My goal in life is to become as wonderful as my dog thinks I am.

After reading all the lovely comments, I am so very sorry I didn't make it. I have a new baby puppy here and the vet felt even if he had his injection, may not be a safe bet,... particularly given the wet weather of late.
I will certainly bring him and my girl next time. Thank you all for what I believe will be a regular thing. I am really chuffed that so many people are becoming interested in this sport.
I hope I can do some basic training with my new boy, he seems to love retrieving already!!!
Once again, sorry I could not be there, but thanks for the lovely photos!!
Lyn :)
