How many people competing in retrieving trials in Australia?

Postby Jason Ferris » Tue 15 Jun 2004 3:50 pm

I was just wondering how many people there are participating in retrieving trials in Australia. Does anyone have any idea? Has the national RAFT ever collated any statistics?

Seems to me that we have a good proportion of the trialing community on this bulletin board, but there are still heaps of people who are not involved. How can we reach those people?

Cheers, Jason.

Am sure we could get the figures for Victoria by asking Jack as he did some work when we were looking at retention rates from Novice through to AA.

Hi Jason,

Just off the top of my head, I can count the number of people who have regularly competed in the past year over here, in Western Australia, and I can come up with 36 individual competitors. Several of those compete in more than one stake, and some have more than one dog competing. Almost all of the 36 are still competing or bringing along a new puppy with the intention of competing later this year or next year.

SA numbers

Postby Gail Phoenix » Mon 21 Jun 2004 10:51 pm

Here in SA we have around 25 handlers competing this year.
Our All Age dogs number 8 this year which is an improvement over 2003.
Restricted has 5 (1 non competing) whilst Novice has some new players in the game giving us about 20 dogs.
This year has seen our numbers on the increase for the first time in quite a while.

Hi Gail

That's great to hear the numbers are starting to climb again.
S.A. is a fantastic place to go trialing. I would recommend a trip to S.A. for everybody who enjoys trailing.

Retrieving is quite strong in Qld. I am not sure of the total number of competitors but we have 24 licenced Retrieving Judges here.
