Plagued with another bout of insomnia I found myself surfing through various trialling pages and was a little surprised to find the following results from a Canadian trial:

WILD ROSE RETRIEVER CLUB LICENSED TRIAL
Saturday June 12th, 2004

OPEN - Judges - Patrick Fitzpatrick & Sharon van der Lee - 35 dogs

1st Way Out Yonder O – Freeman & Toni Boyett H – Eric Fangsrud

2nd Ryan’s Bud Strikes Again O – Doris Hunter H – Eric Fangsrud

3rd DB’S Rockin Rudy O- Stephen & Kathryn Holst H – Eric Fangsrud

Clearly a good day for Eric.

How often, Down Under, do we find the handler not being the owner? I know of one instance in Queensland although there are no doubt others.

Julian, in the U.S. & Canada the "Open" is for any dog, any handler. It is, in most cases, dominated by the Professional trainers.

Up until a few years ago the somewhat equal level was the "Amateur". This was "ANY" dog, but the Handler could not be a Professional.

Then we created the "Owner/Handler Amateur". This stake is for "ANY" dog but the Owner is required to run the dog.

Hope this helps a little.
