we had our first night on thursday and had 32 people turn up which was terrific
we dealt with
some basic principles of training gundogs
RATG exercises
the function of the happy bumoer
rev up and rev down drill
hold and how to teach it
heeling the box
and chair jumping
we then got involved in some marking
lots of great people and enthusiastic and talented dogs
the restricted dogs did some walkout blinds
a big thankyou to our team who helped make it happen
pete ray helena ron jeff etc
also great to have Bill Bailey and Joe Vella along as well
blacktown training and kennel club is hosting the training group so a big thank you to Ron and his club committee for their support

Hi Peter,
Congratulations! I really enjoy reading about positive initiatives in Australian retrieving and it seems you have really kicked a goal here.

Cheers,

Garrick

thanks garrick
i really hope we can make a difference
at 11 pm we still had nearly everyone there
the standards ranged from restricted competitors down to complete newbies
i have given everyone a course outline as a handout which is a kind of australianized flow chart
we are meeting twice a month and will have a field day as well normally on a sunday arvo late
it is very clear to me that if the sport is to flourish we need to encourage RATG and incorporate them into our trial schedule
and allow people to stay in restricted indefinitely or at least until they place in AA
and i agree with u there has been a lot of negative posts lately regarding training methods which are divisive and do our sport an injustice
we all need to be positive and stick together i really hope some high profile trainers are willing to get online and share their training methods as well

Well done Peter
Great to see the terrific progress in NSW to introduce people to the sport and to help them with their training.

thanks trevor i have a lot of great help from helena cornelius peter butterfield and ray temple
it is very obvious to me that we must include RATG events into our retrieving trials
i wonder how the rest of the trialling community feel about that?
