USA National Open

Postby Dale Marshall » Wed 21 Jan 2015 8:44 pm

To those that may be interested the National Open will be held in Corning , California from 8-14 of November.
Corning is aprox 500 miles North of Los Angeles.
To be held at Rolling Hills Casino, amazing casino grounds where the National will be held, accommodation is aprox $110.00 per night with free breakfast. Some complain our entries are expensive, try $400 for the National, aprox 100 dogs are entered, 2 dogs automatically qualify from the previous year.
A bit of interesting info-- if your dog (male) wins the National it has the capacity to earn aprox $250,000 in stud fees,
Last years winner Stray Bullet is drawing little interest as he is an Eic carrier.( what I am told)
This year a mating between "tub" 2014 National winner and Canadian National Amateure Champion " on the wings of an unanswered Prayer. " Ammo" choc bitch, the all time USA Derby points dog and also the all time USA points scorer.
Have 25-30,000 in your pocket, that's what it would cost to land a pup in Australia if one was available at 10 months old.
The owner of Ammo is very interested in our trials, I have sent a score sheet and our rules to him.
2016 May see Bill Petrovish down under to watch the National and if anyone is interested he may run a training seminar.

Cheers
Dale

Hi Dale,

I was fortunate enough to watch the 2014 Irish national which was held between Xmas and new year. The 40 dog field included the 2013 IGL national winner from England and the defending Irish National winner who I believe is the sire of your Irish import. Although on average not as tall as some of the American based dogs we have seen here in Australia, the Irish and UK dogs were relatively snipey in the head and long in the body. It seems working Labs around the world are heading in the same direction. The dogs were very athletic and very fit looking. Most had 3 or even 4 ribs showing. I guess this is a product of the high work loads and cold weather.

There are currently at least 11 dogs/bitches in Australia sired by various US National winners. I'm not sure if Julie has imported any semen from a National winner but certainly those dogs she has used are of similar standards. So luckily we now have access to these and some lovely Irish/UK based lines here in Australia for a fraction of the costs you have quoted. Combine this with some of the existing stock in Australia and the working lab has probably got the brightest and most genetically diverse future it has ever had in Australia.

Should you decide to hold a training seminar with Bill Petrovish count me in. Sounds like a great opportunity to learn.
