Electronics for remote control of SDA bird throwers

Hi all

Julie's email in another topic has reminded me of an issue I have been struggling with.

I have a Specialised Dog Accessories bird thrower that I want to set up for remote control. I have the mechanical side of it sorted (using a crossbow trigger and a solenoid), but am struggling with the electronics.

I am aware that others have used model car/plane/boat electronics for throwers, but the control unit on these is big and clumsy when you are trying to handle the dog and gun so I trying to find a better way.

Has anyone had any experience with using the purpose built electronics from the US for this purpose? I am particularly interested in the Pro Control Remote Release system manufactured by Tritronics (see http://shop.tritronics.com/procontrolrl.html). With the relatively good exchange rates at present these are becoming affordable.

Any advice anyone?

Cheers, Jason.

PS - I think today has been the most active day on the awrc bulletin board since I joined. Good to see everyone!

have you talked to geoff about his outback auto launcher. he has marketed it overseas. I have seen a demo on video tape and it looks fantastic. I hope the working gundog club of NSW can purchase some in the future. geoff is the obvious person to ask about the eletronics
ps when are we going to see the report on the ACT championships?? did you get some pictures?? hopefully the national will have an official photographer who can post up reports and pictures as they happen!!!!!
wouldn't that be great!!!

Believe Sue McAdams who taches photography has been asked to take photos in Tasmania - perhaps someone should talk to her about getting them onto this forum - I imagine it would require someone who is clever with computers. Jason - if you are going, contact me and I can give you her phone number.

Spoke to Geoff last night about the Outback launcher. For those of you who have not seen it - the Outback is a neat catapult type launcher that automatically resets and loads itself and throws dummies, pigeons and ducks. At this stage there are no plans to distribute them in Australia. They should be on the market in the US shortly.

Cheers, Jason.

Hi Kirsty,

It's about time you dusted off that old thrower of yours  and brought it back to trialing....

Long time no see
