qualification for open

hi all

Could someone tell me if a dog has a nrd or win in novice Retrieving, does this dog still have to complete a win in novice gwt before
it can enter in open.
If so it seems that, it is a bit over qualified for novice, as there are not many dogs that win straight up in novice retrieving
and with three passes you get a start in open gwt. (sa rule).
The dogs in question that arent qualified, are from states that don't run tests regularly.

Hi Tony.

Looking through my info on the rules I found the following.

February 2008

GUNDOG WORKING TEST

ELIGIBILITY:

NOVICE for Gundogs that have not previously qualified 3 times in, or won two Novice Gundog Obedience Tests. Gundogs with Retrieving Trial titles are not eligible for Novice Class.

OPEN for Gundogs that have qualified 3 times in, or won a Novice Gundog Obedience Test, or have a Retrieving Trial for Gundogs title (NRD, RRD, RTCH).

Going by that a dog that hasn’t competed in any GWT has to have a Retrieving Title to be eligible for Open GWT.

Hope this is of some help.

Steve.

thanks steve and jo

I thought that it would have to count for something. I have had people tell me they wouldnt enter (gwt wei national )as there dog had too much experience for novice as it was not fair to true novice dogs. hopefully the same goes in SA.
