We had 12 entries for the ability test with 8 starters. All of the dogs and handlers showed good enthusiasm for the 5 disciplines (obedience, conformation, retrieving, field & trailing) with a lack of experience or control bringing a few undone. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and it was great to see some inexperienced handlers realising what their gundogs are capable of.

A big well done to Lara Sedgman who qualified both her Vizsla and her GSP. These were the only two dogs to gain pass marks in all 5 disciplines and Lara, you ought to be congratulated!

Next year we hope to run two days of testing on the same weekend.

For those not familiar with this concept, the idea is to test utility gundogs as to their natural working ability and their versatility as required by their utility status. While some level of training is required it is the dogs basic desire and ability that is looked for. Dogs who qualify now gain an ANKC sanctioned title, which we expect will lead to being a valuable tool for breeders wishing to maintain working ability.
