RATG training and mock trial - Report

Postby Lesli Cameron » Sun 20 Feb 2011 3:16 pm

Hi all

The ACT Gundog Society held a RATG training and mock trial day on 19 February at the DOGS ACT grounds. Seventeen people participated, fielding 21 dogs. The following breeds were represented. Viszla, Golden Retriever, Labrador, Pointer, GSP, NSDTR, English Springer, Cocker Spaniel, Brittany and Long Haired Weimerana. There were eight new people to retrieving, several non members and a couple of interested spectators in attendance.

The day started at 10 am with Bob Tawton covering off the technical aspects of the new RATG rules, followed by the opportunity to have several practice retrieves, a relaxing lunch under the trees and in the afternoon we held a mock trial. The rain came in during the afternoon but most people were able to stay to give the mock trial ago. Thanks to Bob, Lara and Laraine for ensuring that the day was a success.

The club will be holding its first RATG trial on 9 April in Canberra at the Tuggeranong Dog Training Club. With the excellent numbers that turned out for the training/mock trial day, we are hoping for a great turn out on 9 April.

Well done everyone. Great to see such a mixed variety of dogs. We are hoping on a good turnout for our demo day at KCC Park (Vic) on the 20th March. There are quite a few showing interest at my local obedience club and looks like a few of the older ones will give it a go. We may be able to host a trial there later in the year. Would have loved to come up to your trial but a hospital appt. puts me out for that one.
Go the Weimaraner Longhairs
