Trial Report
Field & Retrieving Association for Gundogs Inc.
30th June and 1st July 2007
Clifton Qld
It is my pleasure to submit this report as a life member of this club.
The two day trial held at Clifton was a concern for the organisers as it is a known fact that black soil and our sport do not go too well together. Despite the rain, sleet and wind prior to Saturday, the triallers converged onto the property with expectations of good weather and a week-end of trialling their dogs. The campsite was on higher ground around the farm machinery compound and close to facilities provided by the Flying School on this property. The majority of triallers arrived on Friday, and by Saturday morning prior to vetting the campsite was alive with triallers and dogs.
Saturday was overcast and windy, but excellent for dog work. Novice was judged by Peter Duffy in an area that tested dogs for marking ability and sagacity to enter cold water. We do have cold water in Queensland, especially out west.
All Age was judged by Helen Cattermole on a new section of the property, and Helen tested her field in a variety of concepts required of All Age dogs.
Saturday evening the majority of triallers converged to the local Irish Pub for dinner with the warmth of a wood fire. Light conversation and post mortem on the days trialling finished off a very good day.
Sunday, the weather was perfect. Light frost in the morning, sunshine with thankfully light wind from mid-day onwards. Novice was judged by George Price and All Age by Ron Jackson on an area of the property where the 2001 Qld Retrieving Championship was run. Great work was seen from the dogs and the judges and the trial committee were pleased with the attitude of the competitors displaying good sportsmanship and camaraderie.
At this point I wish to mention the trial committee, who as everywhere else put their shoulder to the wheel and worked towards a good trial. Small in number but keen as mustard that our sport continue, and that we enjoy participating with our companion dogs.
The trial finished at a reasonable hour, so that our competitors from up north could pack up and leave to face the long journey home.

Congratulations to all. Plans are in progress to take up the slack on our trialling calendar created by the “Rubber Ducks” scenario, and you can look forward to bigger and better events in the very near future.
