2004 ACT NSRT Championship Report

Postby Jason Ferris » Wed 10 Nov 2004 12:37 pm

Here is a report on the Championship, copied from the ACT Gundog Society Newsletter with permission of the author...

2004 ACT NSRT Championship Report

The ACT Gundog Society conducted the 2004 ACT State Retrieving Trial Championship on behalf of the ACT Canine Association in the Bluett’s Pines area on the 9th and 10th of October. Mr Wayne Poholke (VIC) was appointed to judge the event and Eagle Pack, Super Premium Pet Food agreed to be the sponsor, a gesture for which the Society is most grateful. The “social” held at 5 Rowell Place on Saturday evening was extremely well supported and I am confident in reporting that everyone had a great time.

Run No 1 was a double land mark retrieve with the dogs having to negotiate rough up-hill terrain to retrieve two birds cast to land at distance of approx. 130 m and 100m respectively. The top scoring dogs on this Run were Helena Cornelius’ “Bella” (Coalsgarth Una Bella) and Gareth Tawton’s Monty ( RT Ch Kadnook Pride Ov Cork) . All competitors completed this test.

Run No 2 was a Triple Land Run, primarily down-hill, comprising two Mark Retrieves and a Two Bird Retrieve that was cast as the dog was returning with the first item of game. The top scoring dogs on this Run were Joe Vella’s Blackie (RT Ch Kaemajae All Black) and Bob Tawton’s King (RT Ch Kadnook King of Kanbera CM). One dog failed to complete this test.

Run No 3 was a Double Blind Find Retrieve (across water) with a delayed Mark Retrieve which the dog sighted after it had returned to its handler with the first item of game. The top scoring dogs on this Run were King, Monty and Graeme Parkinson’s Major (Nat RT Ch Terraway Sergeant Major).

Run No 4 was a double Rise (across water) and a Blind Find Retrieve that was a partial channel swim. The top scoring dogs on this Run were King and Blackie.

Run No 5 was an in-water Mark retrieve with a Double Fall Retrieve ( a Bird cast as the dog was proceeding towards the in-water Mark) coupled with a Blind Find Retrieve. The top scoring dogs on this Run were Blackie and Monty.

Run No 6 was a Land Mark Retrieve coupled with a Walk-up Retrieve and also involved some relocation. The dogs to score well on this Run were Bob Tawton’s Tank (Kadnook Tanks Aheap) and King.

On behalf of the Trial Manager, Gareth, I would like to take this opportunity to especially thank Jason Ferris, Laraine Frawley, Jo-Anne Hagan, Graeme Parkinson, Joe and Mary Law, Siobhan and Gareth Tawton, Joe and Jane Vella, Helena Cornelius and my wife, Pam for their sterling efforts in make this a most successful trial. Eagle Pack, our sponsor, also deserves special mention.

Robert Tawton
