Dogs SA 2018 Top Retrieving Gundog Award

Postby Jessie Hughes » Mon 03 Dec 2018 8:47 pm

3 local dogs were 1st in Restricted Stakes this year, and unlike last year all of the Restricted Stakes were able to be held due to either interstate competitors trialling here or Novice competitors entering Restricted to ensure that the Stakes had sufficient numbers to be held. Thank you to those Novice competitors for your support.

Those winning Restricted competitors were:

Mr B & Mrs J Kradolfer & Kadlinga Kennels, Labrador Retriever dog
KADLINGA BOS GENEVER RRD with 5 wins - a great effort Ben and Bos

Neville Higgs, German Shorthaired Pointer dog
OAKRIDGE LOCHINVAR NRA with 1 win - well done Neville and Riley (they travel from Mt Gambier, when possible, to compete)

Ray Ashenden, Labrador Retriever dog
NATIVERUN ANGUS with 1 win in SA plus 3 wins in Victoria

The Rules for the SACA Top Retrieving Gundog Award were altered in 2016 to include:
To qualify exhibitors must be Members of Dogs SA and resident of SA when the points are awarded. Interstate points to count. (update 9/16).

The only South Australian dogs to qualify in All Age [To win the trophy, the points must include one place in an All Age Stake or Championship Stake] were:

Ch Habanero Grof No Remy UD RM AARD ORA, Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla bitch – Gail Phoenix 1 x 2nd AA = 1 x 6 points = 6; 1 x 3rd AA = 1 x 3 points = 3, total 9 points.

RT Ch Nativerun Angus, Labrador Retriever dog, Ray Ashenden
4 x 1st Restricted, 4 x 3 points = 12, 3 x 1st AA, 3 x 9 points = 27 points, 2 x 3rd AA, 2 x 3 points = 6 points;

giving Guss 45 points and he is the winner, congratulations Ray !!

A short history of Guss:
Guss was born in May 2017 and Ray started trialling him early this year at 8 months of age in Victoria, before our retrieving season commenced. At his first trial, in January, he was placed 2nd in Novice. This year he has won 1 x 1st and 3 x 2nd in Novice Stakes. In Restricted Stakes he has won 4 x 1st , 2 x 2nd and 2 x 3rd. In All Age he has 2 x 3rd plus recently 3 x 1st places which qualifies Guss for his Retrieving Champion title at 17 months of age.

Guss and Ray competed in the National Championship Retrieving Trial in Victoria this year when he (Guss, not Ray!) was 16 months old and won the Dogs SA – RAFT Advisory Highest Scoring SA exhibit, Nancy Edwards Memorial Trophy.

Congratulations to Ray & Guss on a brilliant year. What a super dog you are Guss. It has been a joy to watch this team compete over the retrieving season. Each trial you could see Guss maturing & improving. Something needed work at one trial & next trial you could see the work that Ray had put in to improve that area. Such a bond between them.
