2020 Dogs SA State All Age Stakes Retrieving Trials For Gundogs
29th & 30th August 2020

It was apparent well before the closing date of entries, that with Victorian and New South Wales people facing our borders still firmly shut, we were not going to have the required number of entries to hold the SA State Championship RTFG this year. Application was made to Dogs SA and quick approval was given to hold 2 x 1 day All Age Stakes in it’s place. Entry closing date was extended which enabled us to get the required 4 entries each day.

Our 3rd AA judge, John Nairn, was still injured which left the other two, Graeme Allen and Jeff Patrick, to judge one day and compete the next.

Our hosts for these trials were Barmera/Moorook Field & Game; the venue for 3 consecutive week-ends of trials this month. The judges used areas of the property not previously competed on. Major Sponsors were McMahon Services and BlackHawk.

Saturday was fine and sunny with a top temperature of about 25º and Sunday cooler, a bit windy and overcast.

Stewards were a bit thin on the ground, as disappointingly, none of the Novice or Restricted competitors came to help. Tor Bakkeland spent Saturday on a thrower and was going shooting the next day. A blast from the past - Mick Strawbridge spent the week-end on the thrower as he had done the previous week-end too.

Results:
Saturday 29th Judge Graeme Allen (SA) 4 runs 4 entries
1st RT CH NATIVERUN ANGUS, Lab D, Ray Ashenden 223 pts
2nd CAVAJAL ROBIN HOOD (AI) RRD ORA, Lab D, Jeff Patrick 155 pts
NFF

Sunday 30th Judge Jeff Patrick 4 runs 4 entries
1st RT CH NATIVERUN ANGUS, Lab D, Ray Ashenden 229 pts
2nd ELLISHEA WYATTS DIDJA (AI), Golden B, Graeme Allen 191 pts
NFF

This was our last trialling week-end for the season, all that is left is the Novice Teams Cup (open to any-one who was eligible to compete in Novice during this year); where we have a trainee judge being tested for her Novice licence in September.

We are very lucky in SA that we got most of our retrieving season happening in spite of Covid this year but here's hoping that we can all have our usual trialling season next year and we look forward to interstaters coming back to trial here.
