experimenting with whitles

Postby Peter Betteridge » Mon 11 Sep 2006 5:56 pm

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has an opinion on what is the best whistle to use.I have been experimenting with various whistles for about 2 years now but still have not been convinced that my old acme thunderers are inferior to all the new high tech whistles now avaliable.
i own about 15 whistles and here is my evaluation of them
Storm whistle blows my eardrums out impossible to blow softly
green monster too cumbersome for yard work and not great under 100 meters
Jim Gonia peeless megawhistle no different to the normal jim gonia
jim Gonia special megawhistle again awkward for yard work and not great at soft pitch
Fox 40 very loud very small whistle sounds just like the gonia special up close
acme thunderer great except struggles in high wind and past 150 meters
stainless steel acme thunderer lower pitch but essentially the same faults as the plastic version
you can listen to the different pitches at lion country website

Give me a clear gonia mega whistle any day of the week. ;)

Been using one for 7+ years now, even have a "lucky" one that goes to the line with me each and everytime....I'd cry if I didn't have it with me. And yes it traveled down under with me when I ran Julie's dogs!
