GSP Club Vic Open Utility Field Trials

Postby Diane McCann » Tue 15 Jun 2010 9:27 pm

The GSP club ran two days of Open Utility Gundog field trials in the Sale area on the 12th and 13th of June. There was a good entry of 11 dogs on each day, 1 Brittany, 1 Weimaraner and the remainder GSP's. The weather was perfect for field trialling, cool, overcast and a light breeze. The paddocks were large and the dogs had to do plenty of work but there were enough birds so that every brace had an opportunity to show what they do best. Unfortunately I don't have any photo's of the weekend but will try to get some posted soon.

Sat 12.6.10 - Judge - Mr D. Blacker
1st - D. Mills - RT & FT CH Pointgold Obliterate - 174 pts
2nd - R. D. McCann's - Topnotch Leilani RRD-172 pts
3rd - J. Camilleri's - FT CH Zampgli Gemma - 152pts
4th - R Thomas - Inkaline Nevada NRD NFD

This placing gives 'Lani" her NFD title

Thank you to Russell Whitechurch who came along on Saturday and stewarded for us for the first round. Russell enjoyed watching the dogs work but he wasn't sure that all of the walking was really his cup of tea - at least our ground is flat Russell and not like the hill and dale that the spaniel and retriever enthusiasts have to contend with!

7 dogs went into the second round in the field and 5 went to the water (those above and Rob Baranello's Pointgold Appollo NFD) with 4 completing the trial. Judge David Blacker was very pleased with the standard of work, especially considering the relatively poor season that we have had.

Sunday 13.6.10 - Judge - Mr G. Stephens
No Result

On Sunday 4 dogs went into the second round - Russell Thomas and Inkaline Navada NFD NFD, Terry Loft with FT Ch Quailblazer Super X, Diane McCann with Topnotch Leilani RRD & Rob Baranello with Pointgold Appollo NFD - all GSP's. Plenty of birds were produced and some excellent work was seen, however unfortuntaly all 4 dogs managed to eliminate themselves for one reason or another and no dogs were taken to the water. Judge Gus Stephens was unhappy with being unable to award a winner as he had seen some work that he was very pleased with, however that is field trialling and standards have to be upheld.

Thank you to Gary Ponzio and Russell Thomas for the provision of the paddocks and organising the hall for accommodation and facilities.

For interested parties the state championship will be held in the same area next weekend.

Happy hunting
