The Wide Bay Working Gundog Club . ran 2 (modified form) Utility Gundog Field Trials on the weekend of the 17/18 July.
Both Novice.
Location: West/South West of Bundaberg: -Ban Ban Spring and Goomeri areas
Don Nicol – Judge.

SUMMARY:By Don Nicol
Enough game to make it work and pleasing to see the strong application by young inexperienced dogs in sometimes quite barren terrain and at times difficult conditions (heat).
Dogs worked surprisingly well – almost all of them.
Flushing in sometimes moderately heavy cover –was generally effective.
It was quite warm towards the middle of the day – both days – but the young dogs persevered with strong working patterns.
The young dogs seemed to be working more maturely than age and experience would normally suggest.
Effective coverage of ground both days. Nice pointing and steadiness to flush.
Some truly lovely backing by almost all dogs.
In particulay Jagacey Nugget Moon (Nugget) Wendy Michalk and Yorifeld Topaz (Shiraz) Elio Colasimone were startlingly eye catching with their backing style.
Water work was quite slick by all dogs that finished. Rabbit and hare were seen both days.

RESULTS
8 entries - 7 started – all from Bundaberg area.
Day 1: Yorifeld Topaz (Shiraz) (First) Elio Colasimone , Yorifeld Quartz (Messi) (Second) Elio Colasimone- no other finishers

Day 2: Jagacey Nero Bianco (Nero) Dom Colasimone 1st, Yorifeld Topaz (Shiraz) 2nd Elio Colasimone , Feldhund Perazzi (Raz) 3rd Mal Tyrie, Yorifeld Quartz ( Messi) Elio Colasimone 4th. ( 4 dogs finished)

SHIRAZ – Yorifeld Topaz takes out the “SOPHIE” Memorial shield for the highest scoring dog over the two days.

The weekend was notably successful from a camaraderie point of view. Participants are keen to keep this new trial format going for the future thus allowing Queensland dogs to qualify for future Championships.
