UFTC OF WA S&R NOVICE TRIAL

Postby Allan Bartram » Mon 08 Jun 2015 6:53 pm

The very first ever Novice Spaniel & Retriever trial conducted in WA was held by the United Field Trial Club of WA on Sun 7th June. The UFTC of WA had secured Don Nicol from Qld to judge this inaugural event.
A fantastic entry of 11 dogs (10 starters) was received for the event held between the wheatbelt towns of Goomalling and Meckering. 4 Cockers were joined by 3 Labs and 3 Golden retrievers in the field.
Don had selected 4 rounds for the dogs comprising two attempts on rabbits and two attempts on quail. Weather was rather hot with temps reaching 26 deg during the late morning, not conducive to great scenting conditions.
The rabbits proved rather elusive for most dogs but the quail gave a number of dogs good finds.
Only one dog managed to fill their card, however, all competitors had some success and at the end of the day there were a whole heap of smiling faces, full of enthusiasm for the event.

1st place : Grd Rt Ch , O Ch Altiquin Glory ADM,JDM,RE TD (Imp Ire) Lab bitch Handled by Colin Hankinson
Encouragement award : Rowson Sadie (Imp UK) Cocker Spaniel bitch Handled by Brett Davidson

Many thanks go to Don for his mentoring and advice during the day but special thanks to the UFTC for managing to get the trial to fruition and to Ray, June & Eli Johnson who not only organised the event, the property and judge but also conducted two training days prior to the event.
