Applications to Judge Retrieving Trials NSW

The NSW Retrieving and Field Trial Committee is inviting members of the NSW Retrieving Trial community to apply become Novice Retrieving Trial Judges. It is also inviting existing Retrieving Trial Judges to apply for elevation to judge higher stakes.

Applicants will be provided with a PDF copy of the ANKC rules and a summary of the rules. Applicants will then be required to undertake an online multiple choice exam on the relevant rules applicable for Novice, Restricted or All Age stakes depending on the Judge’s Panel for which they are applying. Alternatively, applicants can choose to complete a written multiple choice exam whilst they are in attendance at a trial.

Applicants will then be given access to mentoring in areas including the application of the rules, setting runs, scoring dogs, competitor safety, managing trial mechanics/logistics etc. Once applicants are confident, they will undergo a practical exam involving selecting runs and judging a number of dogs in a mock trial. Where practicable applicants will be provided with mentoring and examined whilst they are already in attendance at a trial.

Without sufficient people offering to sacrifice a day or two competing to judge per year, our sport is not viable in the long term. If you have the necessary experience the NSW RAFT strongly encourages you to put your hand up to help.

Whilst the prospect of judging may seem daunting to some the truth is that Novice and Restricted stakes are relatively easy to judge and the NSW RAFT is willing to provide whatever support you need to become a competent judge.
